A plain guide to using this website — how to find what you are looking for, how signing in works, and what is in each part of the site.
Most of this website is for FGBT members, so you will be asked to sign in before you can read it. Signing in does not need a password.
The link only works once, and it stops working after a short time. If it has gone stale, just ask for a new one — you can do that as often as you like.
If the email does not turn up, look in your junk or spam folder. It also helps to check the address for a typo before asking for another link.
Once you are signed in, go to your account page and set a password. After that you can sign in with your email address and that password, and skip the email step entirely. This is worth doing if you visit often, or if links from your email app tend to open in a window where you appear signed out.
On your own computer, tablet or phone you will normally stay signed in, so you only have to do this once. On a shared or public computer, sign out when you have finished.
This message means your email address works, but it has not been added to the FGBT member list. Contact whoever looks after the site for your chapter and ask them to add you. Give them the exact email address you tried to sign in with.
There are more than six thousand items on this site, gathered over many years. There are three ways to get to them, and you can use whichever suits you.
Everything is filed into sections — Lessons, God’s Promises, Testimonies, Videos and so on. The full list is further down this page, with a short description of each one and a link straight to it. Pick a section and you get a list of everything in it, newest first.
If you know roughly what you are after — a word, a name, a phrase, a Bible reference — searching is quicker than browsing. There is a search box at the top of the site, and a bigger one on the search page itself.
The Help button sits in the bottom corner of every page. Click it, type what you are looking for in plain words, and it will point you at the right section. It is not a search of the articles themselves — it just tells you which part of the site to look in.
The bigger sections run to hundreds of items, so they are split across several pages. Page buttons sit at the bottom of the list. If a section is too large to scan, search within the subject instead.
Search looks through the titles and the text of everything on the site. Go to the search page, type what you want, and press Enter.
This is done by your web browser, not by the site, so it works on every page and it is remembered next time.
Any page can be printed from your browser’s own print command — Ctrl + P, or ⌘ + P on a Mac. In the print window that appears you can choose which pages to print, which is worth doing if you only want part of a long article.
The tracts and prayers are the ones most people print. They are written to fit on a page or two and to be handed to someone else.
Copy the web address from the top of your browser and paste it into an email or a message. Bear in mind that most of the site is members-only: whoever you send it to will be asked to sign in, and will only get through if they are an FGBT member. The About pages are the exception — those are open to anyone.
That usually means the sign-in did not finish. Ask for a fresh email link and click it in the same browser you are reading in. If it keeps happening, set a password on your account page and sign in with that instead — it avoids the problem entirely.
Reload the page first — Ctrl + R, or ⌘ + R on a Mac. If that does not help, close the browser completely and open it again. Most one-off glitches clear at that point.
The site was rebuilt from the old fgbt.org, and a few old web addresses changed along the way. Old links are redirected wherever possible, but if one does not land where you expect, search for a few words from the title instead. Almost everything from the old site is still here.
Videos are hosted elsewhere and played inside the page. If one stays blank, reload the page. Some networks — offices and churches especially — block video sites, in which case it will play on your home connection or on your phone.
Get in touch through the About section. It helps to say what you were trying to do, what you saw instead, and the email address you sign in with.
