Richard RatzGiving Honor and Glory to God

My name is Reinhard Ratz. I am a licensed professional mechanical engineer (PE) and work for a local consulting engineering firm. I would like to tell you my story.

My father was a German soldier during WWII.  At the end of the war, he ended up in a Russian POW camp. He told me how he and other soldiers shared the pages from a New Testament.

He found and claimed the verse from 1 Peter 5:7 King James Version (NKJV), “casting all your care on Him, for He cares for you.” Even though my Dad did not have much education, he would get up early before work and pray in the living room.   My dad brought our family from Germany over to Connecticut when I was three years old.

I grew up in a Christian home, and both of my parents were Christians. We would have regular Bible reading and prayer. We attended a small full gospel church in Connecticut. When I was eleven years old, I went forward on a Wednesday evening altar call and received Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior. I had a paper route as a teenager and tithed my income. God has blessed and provided for me through the years, and He rebuked the devourer.  I realized the importance of living as a Christian example to others. Near high school graduation, I applied to West Point and was accepted. During my time at West Point, I received the baptism of the Holy Spirit. I am thankful for the boldness, power, and edification through praying in the spirit. I could feel the leading of the Holy Spirit even when taking tests on whether I had answered correctly or needed to look at something further. I was on the cycling team and was the first cycling club president. After graduation, while stationed in Fulda, Germany, for three years, God blessed me in my military duties and off post duties. Some of my German Christian friends and I started meeting for Bible studies at my apartment. We eventually rented a facility for a Christian tea room. We were open several evenings each week for Bible study and fellowship. I had opportunity to share the Word of God there.

After attaining the rank of Captain, I left the army and spent time seeking God.  A month later, I became the youth pastor at a full gospel church, and then did evangelistic work. I worked in a variety of jobs. This included working on drilling rigs in the Gulf of Mexico, working for a garage door business, and owning a garage door installation business. I was able to see how God provided my “daily bread.”

Once while visiting a church in Waco, I was asked pray for someone. I commanded whatever did not belong in the body to leave in the name of Jesus. The person got up during the service and said, “It was gone.” In 1991, as result of meeting people during a crusade in Greenville, TX, I became a pastor of a small independent full gospel church in Commerce, TX. During ten years of marriage, we had two sons and a daughter, who are now grown and doing well.

In 1997, I published a book Witness on the Internet. I had been emailing gospel invitations to people by the thousands and had been getting hundreds of replies back. I started a Christian website to direct people to basic Christian discipling, answers, and resources. This has grown to the current website.  I am thankful for God's protection. Once on a trip to Europe, a person pulled a gun on me. I recognized that the gun was a fake and told him.

In 1998, I was licensed as professional mechanical engineer (PE). After becoming a PE, I first worked for a local consulting engineering firm. God helped me at work. I had several opportunities to speak at churches. I continued writing Christian books and shared the gospel with others online and in person. I did mission trips to Haiti and Europe. In 2006, I changed engineering firms and had opportunities to travel to Afghanistan, Spain, Japan and a number of states in the US. This gave me opportunity to share the gospel in more places.

In 2014, I gradually changed from full-time engineering work and started taking more time for ministry. This has included teaching classes, speaking at services, doing personal evangelism, taking mission trips, writing books, and managing the goodpassage website. A free weekday email devotional is sent to subscribers. My most recent book is God Answers Prayer is available in print and on Amazon Kindle. Recent story - couple from Nepal prayed to become Christians.
