Moses George Story

My name is Moses George and I am a Captain in the United States Air Force. I’m stationed at Malmstrom Air Force Base in Great Falls, MT.

I’m a Space and Missiles Officer and I have had the privilege of working with some of America's most disciplined and capable airmen in the nuclear deterrent mission. Day to day I serve as a Missile Combat Crew Commander and Instructor. In this position I serve as the Command and Control Authority for Nuclear Weapons security, maintenance, and if need be authorized launch.
My story is an immigrant's story. My family migrated to the United Sates leaving a world of comfort and wealth behind because they felt a call from God to go to the nation of America. There, as my mother always recalls, "We made this land our land, and this people our people."

My earliest memories were of me in a small country town called Commerce, TX, where I grew and learned the lessons that every Texan is schooled in: God, family and the love of football. These early days were filled with wonderful memories, where my dad was the minister of missions at a local church and my mom was pursuing her second doctorate at the university.I grew up in a Christian home. This is an understatement. There was always prayer, the Bible and Sunday lunch.

But there was something that was growing in my heart. I said to myself, “I know that my parents know God, but Lord...I want to know You as well.” One day, when I was 12 years old I was reading Exodus 33: 11, and there it reads "God spoke to Moses just like a friend.” Something leaped up from within me. Lord, my name is Moses too. Can you speak to me as well? This was the Holy Spirit that was drawing my heart to know God. This question sparked a two year hunt to find the God that I had always heard about, and to know Him, face to face for myself. I'll spare some of the details, but suffice to say that when I was 14 years old I had an encounter with the risen Jesus that transformed my life. In a vision I saw Him. Powerful, mighty truly a King, but His most compelling feature was the uncompromising, fierce and extravagant love that He conveyed towards me. I knew He knew all my faults, yet His hand was still extended, I knew I was not worthy yet He still called me His own. I remember being covered in a canopy of fire, much like the Disciples in Acts 2.

Though I had come to accept Christ as Savior when I was much younger, I knew that the God of Heaven was calling me out, and that He had a purpose for me. This was not a calling that was earned through my good deeds or Sunday school rigor. My friend, this was a purpose that was born out of His love manifested through the cross. My life would never be the same. I desperately wanted to tell people what happened. Unfortunately, I was a stutterer. God, I said, "You've chosen the wrong guy; I have a long list of why you can't use me." However, our self-assigned weakness is not a problem for God. I remember a few weeks later sitting in a church service, my heart burning with a message that I knew was from God. I could sense the Holy Spirit urge me to stand up in our small congregation and proclaim the Word. I still remember it. "God will provide for you...even if he has to send ravens to feed you." With trembling hands and with an anxious heart I quietly walked to the pastor, tugged on His coat...and asked if I might be able to share a small word. I think He was surprised that the stutterer had something to say. God loosed my tongue and I have never stopped telling all those around me of the love that I have experienced from this man called Jesus.

Recently I was speaking at a conference overseas, the crowd was in the thousands, but as I mounted the pulpit, I looked up to God in wonder. How is it Lord that You used a stutterer?

My friend, I don't know what you think it is, and why it is that God cannot use you. I just want to let you know that He has a purpose for you that were bought at the cross, and He wants to use you more than you ever imagined. Not you or your "stuttering" can keep you from His love and purpose.

Can I add one more thing? Holiness and purity must come back into the house of God if we are to witness revival and cultural change. And my dear friend, we desperately need revival.  We are a nation and a body of people that have lost our identity because we have diverted our gaze away from Jesus. Only through the lens of His person can we gain a picture of our true self, our worth in Him and our purpose.  In a media that is bogged by excessive alcoholism, violence and sexuality, we have cynically dismissed a life of holiness and purity as not only impossible but antiquated.  My friend, a life of purity is possible through the power of the Holy Spirit. This is not a holiness that is conjured through the power of self; rather it is a supernatural relationship with a God of love that enables us to live powerfully, purely and holy before Him. It is possible, and as I look affectionally at my bride to be, I am grateful that God enabled me to live a life of purity. I'm not saying this to condemn anyone. The message of the cross is clear, "all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God", and we have all experienced His grace in a mighty way. Rather, I want to encourage those that are living in a culture that is hostile to holiness and purity. Don't be afraid to take on the nature of Jesus. Don't be afraid to stand up for righteousness. Don't be afraid to walk out a life of holiness and purity. He is holy, He is pure, and when we are in relationship with Him we will be transformed into His likeness and character. Jesus saves us the way we are, but He never leaves us the way we are. He is a God of grace that empowers us to walk holy and pure because he knows that those virtues bring life and life abundantly. My friend, God is not angry at you. He wants to walk with you and bring purpose, healing, and restoration into every part of your life. Jesus is a living Messiah and when you experience Him, you very much want to be like Him. So, be holy even as He is holy. Be pure even as He is pure. Nothing is more essential for us as individuals, as communities and as a nation.
