Drew Schlagel

My name is Drew Schlagel, and I would like to tell you about my journey in life. I was raised in a Christian home, and gave my heart to the Lord at a very young age. As a child, I had a strong faith, and on several occasions I prayed that it wouldn’t rain just so my Dad could finish whatever he was doing outside – and it didn’t! I prayed for a wart on my thumb to go away and it did. Nothing was impossible for God!

Just before my tenth birthday, my family moved from our home town in Lawrence, Kansas to the big state of Texas. It was a culture shock for me and my first time to attend public schools. I got picked on a lot in school and didn’t have many friends. I told others about Jesus, but sometimes lost friends as a result. The fire in me began to dwindle. I didn’t like Texas, and I wanted to move back!

During my freshmen year of high school, my world was turned upside down after failing a routine hearing test. I went to an audiologist and found that I had thirty percent hearing loss in both ears. The news was devastating, and my dream of becoming a pilot seemed unattainable. I went through denial and depression in high school, and tried my best to hide my disability from others. In addition to hearing loss, I was on medication for asthma triggered by dust allergies. These things caused me to question my faith. If God was real, then why was He allowing this to happen to me? I said, “God if you’re real, prove it!”

In the summer of 2003, at a Christian camp, He did.  There I was exposed to the gifts and manifestations of the Holy Spirit, and introduced to “baptism of the Holy Spirit” - a concept foreign to me. That year I made a decision to rededicate my life to the Lord. Jesus was real!

I returned the following summer, and received the baptism of the Holy Spirit. For the first time in my life I could feel the tangible presence of God!  It felt as though someone were hugging my entire body. It was the most wonderful feeling in the world!  I also felt what seemed like a breeze in the sanctuary, which I logically reasoned must be the air conditioner. After camp, I went upstairs to my room, closed the door, and made sure all air vents were closed so that no air was blowing on me. I put on worship music and stood there, waiting to feel what I had experienced at camp. I did! It was then I received my first vision.

Throughout college, I was actively involved with campus ministries where I served playing electric guitar and leading worship. During this whole time, I was still hard of hearing. It got so bad that it was affecting my classes and social life. In June of 2008, I swallowed my pride and got a hearing aid. By then, the hearing loss had worsened to forty percent in both ears. It was a humbling experience for me, and I was amazed at the amount of people who admitted they also had some type of hearing loss. One night, as I was praying to the Lord asking Him to heal my ears, I heard the words, “You will be healed on Sunday.”  On July 27, 2008, at a healing and miracle service in Dallas, Texas, I was completely healed from hearing loss and asthma. I quickly began sharing my testimony with as many people as I could, and saw others healed!

After graduating college in December of 2010, I had difficulty finding a job. Led by the Holy Spirit, I moved back to Commerce, Texas, my college town, to serve full-time at the local Assembly of God Church. There I led worship and helped launch a college student ministry.

In March of 2012, while at a Subway restaurant, I received a job offer to work as a contract engineer for a large oil and gas service company in Houston, Texas. God blessed me greatly and gave me favor. I worked there 16 months before being promoted to a full-time employee.

In May of 2014, I transferred to Germany where God taught and trained me. I visited a German Pentecostal Church with an English translation, and immediately felt right at home. Before long I was playing guitar on the worship team, and co-leading a house group. Things were going well. Then in November 2015, the unexpected happened. I got laid off. I was forced to make a decision either to stay and look for another job in Germany or to return back to the US. After much prayer, I believed I should return. Later, as I was crying out to the Lord about this, I heard these words so strongly in my spirit, “I am taking you back to America to start a church.”

I waited some time for confirmation, before telling others. In mid-February of 2016, I returned to the states. I found a local church and worked as a life guard during the summer before enrolling in Bible school at Christ for the Nations Institute. My first week there, an older man approached me in the bookstore, and began to prophecy over me, he confirmed that I had heard from the Lord and that there was no going back. God would take care of me.
