Adventures of Jose'

Adventures of Jose'How José Became a Christian?

One Sunday, went to a little church with his mother. The preacher told about Jesus. He read the Bible verse which said, "God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have eternal life. "That morning, Jose' watched his mother go down to the front of the church and speak to the preacher while everyone sang a song.

After lunch Jose' asked his mother why she went down to the front of the auditorium.

She said, "Today, I understood that God wants me to trust in Jesus and believe that he died for my sins."

"What is sin?" Jose' asked.

His mother explained, "That is when people disobey God's commandments."

Jose' asked, "Do children sin?"

His mother answered, "Yes, but until a child is old enough to know right from wrong, God always forgives him."

"I know right from wrong. I know when I don't tell the truth sometimes. Will God forgive me?” Jose' asked with tears in his eyes.

jose1Then his mother asked her little boy, "Do you believe me when I forgive you for being bad?"

"Oh, yes, Mama, but you love me", Jose' replied. Then mother told, "God loves you much more. He gave His only son so that my little Jose' could have his sins forgiven forever."

Wiping away Jose' tears, Mama said, "You may tell God that you are sorry for your sins and ask Jesus to come into your heart right now."

Jose' bowed his head and prayed, "Dear Lord, for-give me for my sins. Please come into my heart and help me not to do bad things, amen."

When Jose' looked up, he saw a big smile on his mother's face.

I think there was a smile on God's face too. Don't you Mama?

The Sunday Jose' Went Forward

Jose's mommaJose' was happy. His mother had told him how to become a Christian. He asked God to forgive his sin and for Jesus to come into his heart. Today, Jose' wanted to go to the front of the church and tell all the people about his decision.

His daddy was still asleep so Jose' ate breakfast alone with his mother. Jose' looked up while eating his oatmeal and said, "Mama, today I want to go to the front of the auditorium."

"Yes, darling," his mother answered. She had told him that God wants him to let others know that he trusts in Jesus and that the pastor always gives an invitation at the end of the service for people to come forward who have trusted in Jesus.

Jose' was very excited. He woke his daddy and asked him to come to church because he was going to tell everyone that he trusted in Jesus.

His daddy just grumbled and said, "Go on Jose', I'm sleepy."

Jose' went to his room and dressed. He put on the red bow tie that his daddy had given him last Christmas.

Jose' thought about his daddy and wished he would go to church.

Soon the bus came. Jose' hurried to get on the bus with his mother. He liked to ride the bus. It was fun seeing other boys and girls getting on the bus as the bus driver stopped and honked the horn.

The auditorium was crowded when they got to church. Jose' and his mother had to sit on the back row. They sang some songs. The pastor stood up to preach. "God loves you," was the first thing the pastor said. Right then Jose' stood up and walked down to the front to tell the preacher, "I love him, too".

Jose and preacherJose' was so happy to have Jesus in his heart that he just couldn't wait until time when the pastor gave the invitation to come forward. Jose' wanted to do it right then when he heard the preacher say, "God loves you."

Do you think Jose' did the right thing in going for-ward before the invitation was given? Well, I do. And the pastor did, too.

Jose's mother was so proud of her son that she took a picture of him with his red bow tie on. Mama gave Jose' the picture so he would always remember this special day when he gave his heart to Jesus.

The Night Jose' Was Baptized

Jose' saw his mother baptized last Sunday night. He asked her, "Why did the preacher put you down under the water and raise you up like he did?"

Mama looked at Jose' and said, "I wanted to be baptized. Being put under the water showed that my past sinful ways are buried." She pointed up and said, "When I was raised up, it showed that I might walk in a new life with Christ."

"I want to be baptized," Jose said. He told his mother that lie was sorry for his sins and never wanted to do bad things anymore. Jose' asked, "Can I be baptized?" Mama said, "Yes, that's what God wants you to do." She told the pastor and he was very proud of Jose'.

The pastor told Jose' about the little room in back of the church's baptistery where he should come Sunday night. He told him to bring some other clothes to wear after being baptized. And he told Jose' that he would hold him safely in the water.

Sunday afternoon, Jose' was happy and excited about getting to be baptized. He asked his daddy to come to the Sunday night service.

Daddy told him that he had things to do, but he would try to get home in time to go to church.

The bus came, but daddy wasn't there. Jose' and his mother had to leave without Daddy. Riding to church, Jose said a little prayer, "God help my daddy to come tonight, help my daddy to give his heart to Jesus, too."

Time came for Jose' to baptized. He stepped into the water with the pastor. Looking out in the small auditorium, Jose' saw his daddy sitting with Mama.

Jose' hurried and changed clothes so he could go and sit with Daddy and Mama before the service started. He sat real close to his daddy.

The pastor preached and Daddy listened. Jose' saw tears in his daddy's eyes. At the end of the sermon, the preacher said, "God loves you just like you are." Then he gave an invitation for people to come forward if they wanted Jesus to be their savior. Do you know what happened?

Daddy got up and walked down front. He told the preacher that he was sorry for his sins and asked God to forgive him. "I trust in Jesus," he told everyone.

Jose' was so happy that he ran down front to hug and kiss his daddy.

That night, when Jose' went to bed, he knelt by his bed and said, "Thank you God." I believe I know what

Jose' was thankful for! Do you?

The Night Jose' Saw His Daddy Be Baptized

The day after Daddy became a Christian, he woke Jose' before going to work. He told Jose', "I'm going to be a good daddy and I love you very much.

Jose' jumped out of bed and kissed his daddy as he left for work.

Jose' hurried to get dressed and to clean up his room. After eating breakfast, he kissed Mama as always before leaving for school.

Jose's dad gets baptizedThere is a big dog down at the corner. The dog always growls and barks when Jose' walks by. Even though the dog is tied to a tree, it scares him to go by the dog every day. Kids at school some time tease him about being a "scary cat".

Jose' didn't want the kids to think a Christian was a "scary cat". Today, he stopped on the sidewalk and said a little prayer. Then Jose' bravely walked right past the big barking dog as it pulled on the rope that was tied to the tree.

Daddy wanted to be baptized but he was seared. All day at work he worried about it. Daddy is a big strong man but he was frightened to stand in the baptistery before all the people.

That night at the supper table, Jose' told Mama and Daddy, "I'm not scared anymore to walk past the big barking dog."

"What happened to make you brave?" Daddy asked Jose'.

He told his parents, "1 didn't want the boys and girls at school to think I was a sissy Christian so I stopped on the side walk by the dog and asked God to give me courage to walk past by the dog.

Then Daddy shamefully said, "Well, I've been scared all day. I want to be baptized, to show that I'm a Christian but I'm scared to stand in front of the people in the baptistery."

"Sweetheart", Mama said, "let's ask God to make you brave like He did for Jose' in front of the barking dog."

They all held hands around the table and Daddy bent his head to say a prayer, "Dear God, forgive me for being afraid and give me courage to stand before all the people to be baptized. Thank you, Jesus. Amen."

Well, Sunday night, Daddy was baptized in front of all the church people. Daddy had a big smile. He wasn't scared at all.

I think that God made Jose' and Daddy brave when they asked Him to!

Don't you think so, too?
