Proverbs 5:6

Lest thou shouldest ponder the path of life, her ways are moveable, that thou canst not know them.

David and Solomon warn often in Proverbs about the strange woman and how she destroys men (7:26; 23:28). A strange woman is any woman not your wife, but especially a whore; and they taught their sons wisdom about her (5:1-5). They knew her pain themselves, and experience said she was the greatest temptation for young men.

They knew some of her appealing features and methods. They warn against her flattering words (6:24), her beauty (6:25), her eye contact (6:25), her kisses (7:13), her pretended character (7:14), her romantic affection (7:15), her creative lovemaking (7:16-18), and her discretion and security for the rendezvous (7:19-20). But they did not know them all.

Escaping from a strange woman is by soberly examining your life. For calm reflection will show you are hanging over the pit of hell, with bitter pain and death the certain results, for only momentary pleasure, and you need to get as far from her as possible.

But a whore cannot allow sober thinking, for it is her ruin; so she uses all her wiles to keep men from examining their situation. She entices him unrelentingly in so many ways he cannot free himself from her draw. She uses all the instincts of womanly wisdom, hellish training, and devilish seduction to keep him off balance and under her spell. She cannot afford to let him consider his ways. She must keep his soul a slave to her desires.

Solomon had learned the hard way that her "heart is snares and nets, and her hands as bands" (Eccl 7:26). Snares and nets are the tools of those who trap unwary animals, birds, or fish. They are disguised from view; they are often moved; and they have attractive bait attached. Whorish women are like beasts of prey, crouching, sneaking, hiding, and then pouncing on their unwary victims to their mortal destruction (23:28).

Samson knew Delilah wanted to destroy him, by three previous events; yet he could not resist her seductive wiles; and she destroyed a strong man (Judges 16:4-21). Tamar knew she must alter her appearance and ways to snare Judah, which she did (Gen 38:12-19).

Young man, certain safety is only by staying far from her (5:8; 4:15; Rom 13:14). To expose yourself to her wiles is more than you can handle. Flee (Gen 39:12; II Tim 2:22)!

Our Lord Jesus was tempted in all points like as we are, yet without sin (Heb 2:17-18; 4:15). Being a precious and perfect man, He was surely exposed to both malicious and weak women with efforts toward Him (6:26), but He gloriously resisted them all.
